As a participating construction unit, Changzhou Marine Cable provided low-voltage and communication cables for the entire Mengxiang vessel. This project marked the first large-scale application of mud-resistant marine cables, which comply with the Norwegian NEK TS 606 standard. Overcoming technical challenges such as enhanced oil resistance, mud resistance, drilling fluid resistance, ozone resistance, UV resistance, and high mechanical strength was a key hurdle in the independent R&D and application of this project. To address these challenges, the company conducted extensive research to identify oil-based materials that meet the requirements. Through component analysis of oil-based materials, it developed a sheath material that can withstand drilling fluid corrosion and adapt well to the harsh offshore drilling environment, significantly extending the cable’s service life. Additionally, after repeated verification of key parameters during production, the manufacturing process was finalized, ensuring the cable’s structural integrity and performance.
The Mengxiang project faced tight delivery schedules. CSSC Huangpu repeatedly dispatched representatives to the factory to monitor production progress and product quality. Centering on the shipyard’s requirements, the company completed the delivery of supporting cables for the Mengxiang ahead of schedule while ensuring product quality, earning high recognition from the shipyard.
The implementation of this project broke through the domestic technical bottleneck for such products, replaced imports, enhanced the competitiveness of China’s marine engineering equipment materials, and safeguarded the improvement of the localization level of China’s shipbuilding and marine engineering equipment.
