Project of Zhonglian Optoelectronics: “R&D of ±525kV Long-Life Eco-Friendly Polypropylene Insulated DC Material” Approved for Changshu Science and Technology Tackling Program “Ranking and Leading”

Recently, the project “R&D of ±525kV Long-Life Eco-Friendly Polypropylene Insulation DC Material” submitted by Changshu Zhonglian Optoelectronic New Materials Co., Ltd. (Zhonglian Optoelectronics) has been successfully approved in the 2025 Changshu Key Technology Research “Bidding & Leading” Program.
The project aims to break through the “bottleneck” technology of ultra-high voltage DC cable insulation materials and strive for major breakthroughs in independent innovation in high-end cable materials.
With the further implementation of China’s “Dual Carbon” strategy, long-distance, large-capacity high-voltage DC transmission has become a key part in building a new power system.
The ±525kV DC cable is the core equipment for offshore wind power grid integration and cross-regional power grid interconnection, and its insulation material — polypropylene insulation DC material — directly determines the transmission efficiency, service life and safety of the cable.
The “long-life eco-friendly polypropylene insulation material” developed by the project must withstand an extreme voltage of ±525kV, while achieving outstanding performance in environmental protection (halogen-free flame retardant) and long service life (target: over 40 years).
The project aims to develop a new material with fully independent intellectual property rights and internationally leading comprehensive performance, realize import substitution of key materials, and ensure the independence and security of China’s energy industrial chain.
The review process was strict and rigorous.
In accordance with the 2025 Changshu Science and Technology Research “Bidding & Leading” Project Evaluation Plan, a panel of top technical experts and financial experts in the field of cable insulation materials conducted a comprehensive assessment.
After hearing detailed presentations from Zhonglian Optoelectronics and on-site inspections of the company’s R&D center, testing laboratory and pilot production line, the expert panel highly praised the project’s innovative technical route, strong R&D team and solid industrialization foundation.
The successful approval and follow-up R&D of this project will strongly drive the high-end and green development of the new material industry.
